Our goal is to serve our military members and that means helping you beyond your banking needs. We did a little research and found companies that advertise discounts to active, reserve, and retired service members and their families:
Fred Meyer: The third Thursday of every month is Military Day at this grocery chain; veterans enjoy a 10% discount.
Whole Foods: This organic chain grocer and partner Blue Star Families offers a free starter pantry box for military families at select store locations. Military members outside of those areas are eligible to enter regular national drawings for grocery gift cards worth $200.00.
McDonald’s: The discount depends on the individual franchisee, but it’s typically 10%.
Wendys: Partners with Veterans Advantage offers military discount online on major military holidays. The discounts vary between 10% and 15%.
Home Depot and Lowe’s: Both home improvement stores offer a 10% discount for veterans with ID; the total savings maximum is limited to $500.00. The discount applies to in-store only purchases at Lowe’s; Home Depot will work with veterans who call in orders at 1-800-430-3376.
Bed Bath and Beyond: Offers a 25% in-store discount to all active duty and retired military with ID.
Automotive – buying and maintenance
AutoZone: 10% discount to any auto parts order, in-store or online.
AutoAccessoriesGarage.com: Military members and their families receive a five to 20% discount on parts; an active military address or DD214 is required as proof.
Firestone Auto Care: Participating locations offer 10% off on tires and oil changes.
Midas: Offers veterans with a military ID 10% off on brake jobs, tires, and oil changes.
Old Navy: 10% off all the time for military with various deals every Military Monday.
eBags.com: Offers a year-round 20% discount.
Banana Republic: 15% discount for military.
Stride Rite: Offers a 10% discount online and in-store for military and dependents.
Toys R Us/Babies R Us: Both chains offer a 15% discount during the week leading up to Veterans Day.
Footlocker, Lady Footlocker and Kids Footlocker: Shoes purchases at Footlocker and Footlocker.com receive a 20% discount; military verification is required. The women’s and children’s stores offer the same discount, both in-store and online, and verification of service or immediate family member in the service is required.
Entertainment – movies, videos, cable services
Regal Cinemas: Select Regal movie theaters offer military discounts; check by ZIP code for location and pricing.
Cinemark Theaters: Discounts offered on specific days and times; check by ZIP code for participating theaters and times.
AMC Theaters: Partners with Veterans Advantage to provide a 40% discount on movie tickets. Past or current service member must enroll in Veterans Advantage program for eligibility.
DIRECTV: In partnership with Veterans Advantage, past or current service members receive free premium channels and lower per-month fees for 12 months when signing up for new service.
National parks, zoos, museums
U.S. National Parks Service offers veterans a free annual pass ($80 value) good for them and up to four of their dependents at any park in the country. Covered fees include entrance, amenities, and day use fees.
A collaborative effort called Blue Star Museums offers free admission to veterans and their families annually from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Over 2,000 museums nationwide were part of this effort in 2017.
Zoos vary in the discounts they offer active and retired veterans; this list includes those currently offering military discounts.
Sports venues and gear
Cabela’s: 5% for veterans for in-store and online purchases.
National Hockey League (NHL): The league’s online store offers a 15% discount to military, spouses, and immediate family with discounted tickets and food.
National Basketball Association: Similar to the NHL. A 15% discount to military families for purchases at the online store, and discounted game tickets to select games throughout the season.
PGA Tour events: Through its Birdies for the Brave program, select Tour events provide free and discounted tickets for service members.
NASCAR: The online store offers a 10% discount. The NASCAR on Track Driving Experience (offered at several tracks) is 10% off, and most speedways offer a variety of discounted military ticket prices.
Hotels and travel
LEGOLAND Florida: Active duty military enter the theme park free all year (free tickets not available online); retired military receive a discount and free second-day admission.
LEGOLAND California: A 10% discount is applied at the entrance gate for active duty military.
La Quinta Inns: Offers both government and military rates when you book online or by phone. The military discount is 12%, and if you join their Rewards Club, you’ll earn points toward future stays and free room upgrades.
Hilton/Hampton Inns: Offers a government and military discount rate online or at desk check-in. The amount is not specifically stated on their website.
Norwegian Cruise Lines: All past and current service members qualify for discounts, including onboard perks and credits, discounted fares, travel insurance, and no booking or cancellation fees. These discounts apply to all cabins with family and friends aboard.
Hertz: A discount rate is available for leisure car rental, along with free enrollment in their rewards program.
Avis: Up to a 25% discount is available for leisure car rental through Veterans Advantage.
Amtrak: A 10% discount on the lowest fare applies to past and present service members and their dependents.
Greyhound: 10% discount on an unrestricted fare or a flat $259 fee for travel anywhere in the continental U.S.
Electronics and communications
Apple: Offers online and in-store discounts on tablets, desktop computers, and smartphones for the military. A comparison of military and standard pricing indicates a small (under $50) difference for most items.
Hewlett-Packard: Free registration is required on the computer company’s member deals program. Merchandise is discounted up to 35%.
Dell: An online coupon provides military a 10% discount on Dell computer products.
Sprint: Offers military a 15% discount on select data plans.
Verizon: Discounts are $15.00 or 15%, depending on the plan, and a 25% discount on certain accessories for past and present service members.
AT&T: Military and spouses of active or deceased personnel receive 15% off their monthly service charge on qualified plans.
T-Mobile: A 15% discount on select plans, with no annual contract, through Veterans Advantage.
Pet Supermarket: the last Tuesday of the month is Military Day, with 10% off all regular price merchandise.
Petsmart: Offers a 10% discount on select services, including overnight stays and grooming.
National multipurpose retailers
Sam’s Club: Military who join or renew membership receive a $10 eGift card.
BJ’s: Sign up and receive 25% off your membership plus a $10 coupon.
CVS.com: A 20% discount and free shipping is available through Veterans Advantage.
Walgreens/Duane Reade: Offers a 20% discount on Veterans Day, but you must enroll in the Balance Rewards program for eligibility.
Target: Offers a 10% discount for the entire week leading up to Veterans Day.
Michael’s: 15% off your entire purchase every day, with military ID. This offer is good in-store only.
Overstock.com: Their Club O Military Membership is free and saves military about $50 annually on shipping. The membership also offers early access to deals, dining coupons and reward dollars to use on the website.
Newegg.com: Premier service for the military that includes discount shipping to APO addresses, dedicated customer service lines, free returns, special deals, and early alerts.
Aspen Dental: Offers a 25% discount to military and their family members who are not covered by a service plan.
Smartbox Moving and Storage: Provides $20.00 discount for veterans needing relocation or storage services; a discount code is required.
Veterans Advantage: This free online service partners with many shopping, dining, and entertainment sites and companies to obtain military discounts.
Legalzoom: This online legal assistance service offers military a 15% discount.
TaxSlayer: A 50% discount is applied for active duty military personnel for state and federal tax filings.
Penske Truck Rental: Take 10% off when you reserve your truck online and an additional 10% when you arrive for pickup.
